Fall staples – the tunic top

November 8, 2018

I made a few tops for fall that I knew would get used in heavy rotation.  I was missing some basic layering tops, and that was just silly.  I have plenty of fabric…hello!  I  like to have longer tops to go with my leggings for booty coverage.

For all of these I used the Sneha by Wardrobe by Me* (affiliate link) as the basic block.

This first one I made from bamboo fabric from Twisted Needle Textiles, and makes my little gothy black heart happy. 😉  This was basically a straight Sneha top.  I cut the top and bottom separately by mistake, but it turned out fine.  I find that the back tends to have some pooling fabric on me, so that allowed me to take out the extra fabric.

I know I will wear this with plenty of things in my closet.  I actually made it specifically to go with a top that I will be showing soon.

This next one was mostly a straight Sneha, only I added a cowl collar and thumbhole cuffs. This fabric is a light-weight sweater knit with plenty of drape, and very soft.  I probably should have put clear elastic along the shoulder, but that stuff can get irritating.

Lastly this is the one I showed with my cardigan a few weeks ago.  It is a lightweight jersey fabric that I doubled up both the front and back on the pattern.  I then cut the bottom at different angles.  The neckline has clear elastic in it, as I didn’t do a binding.  The clear elastic keeps it from stretching out after serging.

I am wearing it with the layering crop top and straight leg leggings I made last winter.  The sweater is RTW.  I love the look of layered outfits, so winter is time for the fun dressing!

And it is freezing out and snowing, so I guess it is winter!
