More looming and a little sewing

December 1, 2009

I had grand plans for this holiday 4-day weekend we had.  I got into my looms a bit more than I planned and I made 2 sets of armwarmers, a hat for Kai, a hat for me, a little neck scarf/collar thingy and I have another scarf half done on the loom.  I also made a baby blanket and finished the underdress for Anya’s Christmas outfit, so my sewing machine wasn’t completely unloved.  Here are pictures of a few of my projects.  I will need to take pictures of the rest…hopefully by next week.

A different way to wear it.  I sewed two buttons together and just put them in the weave where I want to fasten it.

My lovely armwarmers…they do keep my hands nice and warm.

The last baby blanket on the to-do list.  Now I just need to deliver it!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with their family and friends.  We just really hung out in the house after the Thanksgiving festivities with Brian’s family.  We got home around 10pm on Thanksgiving, and pretty much didn’t leave to go anywhere until Sunday.  It was nice to just relax at home with no where to go and no plans.  It went by way too fast as usual.

  1. Ack! Stacy, seriously. I’m beginning to feel very inferior as a person. Those are all so fab. But I LOVE LOVE the arm warmers. Love. Great job.

  2. I totally want to snuggle up with that blanket. I love the arm warmers too. I have been wanting to make some from my felted wool sweaters, but can never bring myself to sacrifice the sleeves. I usually need them for my coffee cozies. Now I seriously want one of those looms. I might have to look into one after the holidays. I just ordered myself a serger for my Christmas present, so I am sure that will keep me busy.

  3. Thanks ladies!

The arm warmers are super easy! You just need the little flower loom. Do 35 rows in the round, then 7 rows back and forth for the thumb hole and then about 5 more rows in the round. I used two strands of yarn so they were nice and thick and chunky. 🙂

  4. Is there anything you can’t do? Wow! I told my daughter I would love a pair of those handwarmers. Are they hard to make? I can knit a bit, but am by no means an expert, and I’m really, really slow!

  5. STACY! You are awesome, I love you for this. But wow, you make me feel inferior – I was feeling all good about the one hat I’ve almost finished on the loom. 🙂 It really is fun and easy! But I need some tips from you.

What kind of yarn do you use? The first “practice” hat I did was just with regular weight yarn, but I didn’t like how it turned out at all. So now I’m using a super chunky yarn (6) and I like how it’s working out much better – but there aren’t a lot of options available for thicker yarns. Where do you buy yours? I’ll have to try using two strands at once, too. My kit didn’t come with the little flower loom, I’ll have to pick one of those up, too! All I’ve done is the hat and I’m excited to try more things!

7 rows back and forth for the arm warmers – do you go all the way around before reversing, or do you skip some of the pegs?
