Odds and ends, bits and bobs, a bit of this and that

February 3, 2009

Some stuff I’ve done lately…or in the past few months or so.  Sometimes it takes me awhile to get pictures.

A skirt for Anya for Christmas…she wanted a twirly skirt, so I whipped on up the night before one of the family parties.  Finally got to use those tights I bought on sale at Hanna Anderson two years ago.  I love them!  They have red eyelet lace on the bum, too, so when she was crawling around on the floor it was pretty cute.

An outfit I made at some point this winter…leggings and a top with a big pocket to carry stickers.

I had this cut up a few months ago…finally got around to making it a few weeks ago.  It is yellow flannel and a matching knit.  It’s a bright and cheery outfit to keep the spirits up on the doldrums of winter.  The pants ended up a bit too long, so I shorted them.  I think she might be able to wear the outfit next year, so I’ll just bring the hem down at that time.  Again, big pocket for stickers.  I still need to get a picture of her in the other outfit I made at the same time.  And I need to make the two outfits for Kailan I have all cut up, too.  One is a Packer outfit.  Better late than never, right?? 😉

A new swimsuit that fits her better.  The bottoms on her other ones were pinching off the circulation to her little legs.  Since she has to wear it every week at swimming classes, I figured I would make her another one.  She, of course, picked the princess castle fabric.  She might not look like she loves it, but she does!  She just doesn’t love standing still for a photograph. 😉  This was a simple tankini design that goes over her head and the straps criss cross in the back.  I’ll probably make another one.  These are so quick to make up and I have a bunch more swimsuit fabrics.  The only problem I have with some of them is that my sewing machine skips stitches sometimes.  Rather frustrating, really.

Now I think I’m actually going to have to make something new, since I don’t have anything waiting in the wings to post.  I should have broken this up in a few posts, huh? 🙂

Oh, and the CPSA has delayed execution of the new rules until next year.  Yay, for the mom and pop shops!  Now they just need to amend the legislation, so the testing is done at the supplier level.  This is a good article on the state of affairs as they stand right now.

  1. She looks like she sprung up three inches! Awesome job as always. My little V loves skirts like those. It’s similar to the ones I buy from Mini Boden. Yours is 10x better I’m sure!

  2. O my gosh, Stacey!!!! Can I have just a drop of your creativity, girl??!! These are such gorgeous creations… seriously, what beauty! And such a gorgeous model to make them all for. I love your little girls curls… such a purity and innocence in her eyes.. I love that! What a gift!

Keep it up, you are such a wonderful inspiration to all of us who are more creatively challenged folks. 😉

    Hugs.. Amy

  3. I love the knit outfits. They are so cute and look so comfy. I am still scared of knits. The bathing suit is adorable too. I never even thought about making bathing suits until I started reading your blog. I always look forward to seeing your creations on Tuesdays!

  4. All are adorable…You are such a fantastic talent!

The tights are so cute..when my big girl was little I loved buying her cute/funky knee highs…especially ones with pom-poms! 🙂

  5. The spring outfit is adorable. I love the yellow and green combination. The christmas candy and cookie fabric choice for the twirly skirt is adorable too. You probably could have broken this one up into more than one post but you know we all love your pictures. 🙂

  6. i’m pretty new to your sweet site. love your photos and sewing. i’m just getting back into sewing. loving it. do you use patterns or just do it on your own? specifically for the bathing suit and 2 pc knit outfits. i do have a sewing machine, but it’s pretty basic. would i need something more “fancy” to do those different fabrics?? thanks!

  7. Thanks everyone! Swimsuits are fairly easy to make if you are so inclined. I really like having two piece swimsuits for her since she invariably has to go to the bathroom when it is on her and wet. Much easier for the potty breaks! I also like that it is a modest one…you can’t find those in the stores these days.

Courtney, the swimsuit was a pattern I made up on the fly. I just measured and cut. Stretchy materials are pretty forgiving. You could do a swimsuit fairly easy with just a regular sewing machine, and I do most of on the sewing machine…not serger. The knit outfits are partially pattern and then modified. Any basic pants/tunic top/leggings pattern will work. You can sew with knits on a sewing machine, just make sure it isn’t the super stretchy knit and use a zigzag stitch. HTH! 🙂

  8. I love the green and yellow outfit and the swimsuit. You really need to make swimsuits and put them on Etsy so I can buy one for Ella. The outfits to for that matter! :o)

  9. You sewed a swim suit, I am blown away. it is really cute…..
Can you make one that looks good on my body. hahaha

  10. First of all…you continually amaze me with your sewing abilities…they are all fantastic.

Secondly, will you sell your pattern for the swimsuit?? I love the sweet, simple design (and Addie will love that her belly is covered!) and since we go through swimsuits around her like water, it would be so fantastic to actually be able to just whip a new one up for the girls! I’ve been shopping for Em, but since she is a size 6 now – in the “girls” dept. they all look a little too old, and a little too “hoochy” (yes, it is a word!).

Honestly, you need to think about the pattern making business, because all of your stuff is too, too cute!

  11. How about I do a tutorial for the swimsuit? I’ll try to get that put together in the next month. 🙂

  12. I love that yellow outfit on Anya…it just melds so perfectly with her skin and hair! And, you crack me up “so I whipped on up the night before”…Amazing, you really are!

  13. You inspire me!!!! I love the little sets and your fabrics are awesome!
I can’t figure out what is keeping me from my sewing machine and fabrics!!! I have lots of things I want to do – just getting there isn’t happening.
