Betta Fish Bag

February 8, 2026

This is one of my favorite surface designs that I have done. I love the colors of the fish and the drawing turned out really well for this yin yang design.

I ordered this in linen and then coated it with Odicoat to preserve it. I cut out the circles and then cut it out on the leather, as they weren’t perfect circles and wanted them to fit the space exactly. The leather was a weathered shiny black cowhide I purchased at Tandy Leather several years ago. The complimentary maroon is a lambskin I purchased online.

I love the yin yang koi concho I found. Not the same fish, but in the same vein.

I have been buying ribbon for handles for the last year or so, and the colors in this one matched so well.

The whole thing went smoothly until sewing the outside and lining together. I should have done more of a rounded section at the top sides, since right angles don’t always work so well with the bulk. It looks okay, but it isn’t as nice as I would like. I do like the size of this purse at 13″ x 12″ at the widest, longest sections. The handle is 21″ with the fabric portion.

The inside fabrics are interfaced cotton from my black based designs.

I will make some adjustments to the pattern, but I think this one was a winner. I’m trying to be better about making all of the pattern pieces, too.

I love to hear comments! Sometimes comments hit my spam, so be patient. I will find it! xoxo
