Sewing Themes
I have come to the conclusion that I can’t do a month at one shot, so I am just going to post as I get things done. And it won’t be in order by date, but as they fit the theme. I’m going to try to do all of them this year as a goal, but some are not really in my wheelhouse.
So…hand-stitch something:
This one is a stretch, but I am at the point where I need to put the things I need to sew within the themes. Keeping to the theme, I am using putting in the buttons to be the hand-stitching part.

We were heading to see friends and I wanted to make something for going out at night. I made these bell-bottom pull-on pants. I am trying not to wear jeans right now since the tighter waist bothers my mid-section from the surgery.

I used a straight-leg pattern I drafted, and then I inserted the bell-bottom pattern piece I drafted for a pair of yoga pants for my daughter. The pockets were a quick draft, and I really should have made the back pocket a little narrower.

I added some ribbon to the inside of the bell-bottom triangle. I saw some fun godets on Pinterest with embroidery and such, so wanted to add something fun to it. The ribbon has silver, black, red colors in it.

I wanted these to look more like “jeans”, so I added front and back pockets and a faux front button fly with these nice silver buttons.
The fabric is a black light-weight denim with plentiful stretch. Comfy enough to wear all night. I added elastic to the back band in case they stretch out and to help keep them up.

They were really fun to wear and got some compliments.
I am glad I am getting back into sewing. I find I get pretty tired at night if I just sit and watch TV, but sewing keeps me occupied and gives me a sense of accomplishment. Much better than doom scrolling the night away, which I do way too often these days.
p.s. sorry for the crappy pictures these days. I am not pull out my DSLR and Photoshop unless I absolutely have to, since getting something up is more important than waiting to mess with it and all that extra time.
Love seeing your makes. You are fearless and hella talented.
Thank you so much!
