Week 51: Sew Something with a Woven Fabric
The lining is woven fabric.

This was a quick make to go to a Black Stone Cherry concert. I needed a break, so we stayed overnight near the concert venue, which was the smallest we have seen them at. It’s a biker bar with an outdoor concert space.

I used one of the hides that had a bunch of stains on it, so had to cut around it.
I made this the week we had the concert, during which I got some unsettling news about my future at work, so my concentration was minimal at best. So many mess ups in putting this together. Ah well…it still looks cute. The fringe is the natural edge.

I had to hand stitch the side seam together since it wouldn’t go through the machine with all those layers. It happens, but I try to be mindful and not force my machine. I don’t want to strip the gears. I need a more powerful motor if I want to sew bags for production.

Week 30: Mend or Alter Something
A few weeks before my girl had to go off back to college, she wanted me to adjust a few items to fit her better that she had thrifted.
I did a few items, a few were easy and a few were time consuming. I didn’t get pictures, because it was a rush.
- A snap on a button front A-line skirt. It was budging out a bit in between the top two buttons, so I added a big snap to hold it in.
- A vest cinch back on the back of a sweater vest. She loves those old grandma sweaters and sweater vests. This one was too big, so she needed something to get it to fit better without cutting it apart.
- Turn an A-line mini-skirt into a fitted skirt. I had to add 2″ to the darts at the waist and take out 4″ on the bottom to reduce the A-line. One thing I have learned about adjusting a lined garment is to fit it back on them before sewing up the lining again. Luckily it fit her on a first go.
- Fit a long line best better, so take out several (6) inches at the waist, starting under the arms.
