An error in judgement, then the seam ripper

September 14, 2018

I don’t know about you, but dressing for weddings always has me stumped.  I want to be comfortable for the requisite eating, drinking and (hopefully) dancing, but I also want to look nice.  If it is a family event, then I usually want to wear something I made.  That is usually something that gets asked of me, and I really do like to show off my mad skillz.

I have had a hard time shaking these 30 lbs I have put on in the last 5 years, so I don’t feel awesome right now.  I wanted to make something that I would love my body in, and the first go at it did not meet those expectations.

This dress is made from ponte, as I wanted it to have some structure.  From the front is seems fine, but from the side my mum tum pooches out.  Not a fan of how it looked on me.  At all.

Seam ripper time.

I ended up taking it apart, as I liked the top portion of it.  It is a pretty fun top.  I used a draped top pattern I made a few years back and then added circle sleeves to it.

The sleeves are really fun and FULL.  The ponte definitely gives them some body.

Unfortunately, the weight does tend to pull it off my shoulder a bit.

I love how this turned out as a top.

I had to actually get dressed up just for photos, as I used to just take pics before I headed off to work.  Not so these days as a work at home individual.  It is very likely I will wear this with some black jeans.

These are with the 4 gore maxi skirt I made a few years back from black lycra ponte.  I love this skirt.

So…this top was from August.  I haven’t had time or energy to sew this week.  I’m hoping to get some this weekend.  I still need to get pics of the top I actually made and wore to the wedding in August.  It was super fun!
