A Celtic-ish Bucket Purse

April 29, 2022

After I made the last bucket purse, I wanted to make another one with my own fabric. I ordered a couple of my designs on different canvas fabrics from Spoonflower. This one is my celtic phoenix design.

I also made it a little bigger than the last one.

This time it did drive me to drink.

Both of my machines were having issues with sewing the leather. I purchased some new tape that was much stronger, and also stickier, so that was part of the issue. It just finally skipped so many stitches I didn’t even want to try with the machine and had to resort to hand stitching all the leather.

Fun times.

This was a fairly typical construction for a purse for me. There were some reverse applique on the pockets and I used what I cut out on the main flap. All the flaps are two layers of leather.

Here is the reverse applique on the side pockets and flap.

The pockets are pretty big and roomy.

The straps were a different style than I made before.

The back is similar to the last one I did.

I put it full of all the stuff I bring with me to games, and it fit it pretty well!

After using it at the tournament this weekend, I need to add some kind of padding with some friction to the strap. It kept trying to fall off my shoulder. It will likely be something I can slip through the strap, so you can still lengthen and shorten the strap. Something to work on soon.

However, right now I need to focus on making a last minute prom dress. Let’s hope Amazon delivers the fabric when they say they will; otherwise, I may be taking a day off of work to get that done the day of the prom!
