A peplum for the pre-teen

March 4, 2014

More stuff for the Girl!

This was a pretty simple little outfit and a transition piece.  The lace-like fabric on the arms will be good when it starts warming up a little bit.  She was not happy with it when she wore it this day, though.  It was a bit chilly.  Negative degrees in MARCH.

I seriously hate this winter.

This is a simple top, really.  I use my normal knit shirt block for her, cut the shirt at the waist and cut two pieces for the circle skirt part.  I cut the arms to have both fabrics on it.  The circle skirt peplum is the perfect length, and she rather liked it.  I was dressy and fun, but not cumbersome.

The lace-like fabric was a bit of a loose weave.  I serged it and then topstitched to try to reinforce the seams.  On the layered circle skirt, I sewed right side to wrong side so the seam is enclosed.

Leggings are a 4-way stretch fleece-backed rayon concoction.  Good thing it was 4-way stretch, because I had to cut it against the grain to get the leggings out of it.

She was obviously quite thrilled to model the new outfit for me. 😉

I am going to try to participate in the next season of Project Run and Play, just to keep me going in sewing up some clothes for the Girl.  The Boy doesn’t really need much, but I think he wants me to sew him up some shirts for him.  Then I need to take stock of what they will need for summer.

If summer ever comes, that is!

  1. Aren’t peplums the best!?! They are so flattering on everyone. This is such a great outfit, nice color combo and such interesting and unique fabrics you found ~ wonderful job!
Looking forward to your seeing what you come up with for PR&P.
Temps are getting higher this next week, maybe we’ll be wearing shorts soon?
