August in review

September 2, 2019

Well, holy crap. Summer is gone. We are on the cusp of school over here, and it feels like we barely had any summertime. It was a very rainy summer over here, and it was capped by lots of sports and LOTS of running the kids around. September and October look to be super busy, too, so…guess we roll onward…

Here is my review of my goals for August.

Job is going well, but I just don’t have much energy to get anything done outside of it. I know why that is, for the most part. Lack of exercise is one reason. I need to focus on getting an exercise program up and running. At least three days a week to start out. I need to do something in order to feel better. I have made a few things in the last month, but I am pretty disappointed in all my pictures I have of me due to my weight gain. Need to get off social media and work on myself a bit more.

The kids have done better this last month. The to do work list I write before leaving for work usually gets done. If I don’t get the list written…not much is done, if at all.

There is a lot of clutter in the house still, since they don’t pick up after themselves much. Plus the kitchen is extra dirty from them using it during the summer. It should get better once they get back to school.

On another note, I have gotten a CSA box this season and it is HUGE. It is so very full of produce that I spend my Tuesday nights figuring out what goes into the freezer and what we have a hope of eating for the next week. I believe I have done a pretty good job of blanching and freezing veggies. Here is what I have so far:

  • a few packages of zucchini and summer squash
  • Several packages of green and purple cabbage for use in casseroles and soups.
  • A least a half dozen packages so far of pureed roasted tomatoes and garlic for pasta sauce base for the winter.
  • Three packages of roasted tomatillo salsa for use in enchiladas and soups.
  • Several packages of blanched greens for soups and pastas.
  • Several packages of diced onions and peppers.
  • A few packages of roasted poblanos and shishito peppers.
  • Several packages of blanched sweet corn.

I’m sure there is more that I am forgetting. This will really help with making dinners this winter and saving on the grocery bill. I have been pretty good with getting the blanching and freezing done the day we get the veggies. The reason is two-fold: I don’t have room for all of it, and veggies lose their nutrients as they sit in the fridge. Upcoming will be squash and apples, so I will have to make some pureed squash for soups and risotto and some apple pie filling.

No reading for me this month, since I knew I just didn’t have time. There are some new releases taunting me, but I know that I will get to them eventually.

I sat down to make some designs, and did a lot of uploading of designs this month. Now I need to get some Renaissance Faire/Cosplay costumes made before the 15th of September. Wish me luck…I shall need it.

Some designs from August:

I ordered some products, including t-shirts and hoodies, with my volleyball designs for the kids for school. I haven’t had the time to do sewing and HTV, so that will have to do!

No 52-week sewing challenge items were made. I had an abject failure with one of my chiffon fabrics. Even reworking it didn’t work, so I may just donate it. I don’t know if I want to redo it…again.

Having some quick sewing wins is always good, so I made a blue ponte skirt that took about an hour to make and goes nicely with several things in my closet.

I made a poncho/wrap from a linen knit and faux suede.

I made a bamboo jersey tunic that should be pretty darn comfy this winter. I modified the Sneha by Wardrobe by Me for this one.

Another Sneha tunic, modified with a cowl neck. This is one of the bamboo jersey’s in my own fabric design.

I made a modified Rulo from bamboo jersey.

Now we are onto fall weather and more scheduled time. It is going to be pretty busy over here, but I still hope to get some more creativity happening.

My goals for the next month:

  • Work out at least 3 times a week.
  • Get those Ren Faire costumes done in time!
  • Work on my 2017 photo book, since I want that done so I can get going on 2019 (2018 is done). 2017 was a hard year, so re-visiting it is not on my “so much fun” list.
  • Keep up with my planner, especially meal planning. Life is so much easier if I don’t have to scramble for dinners.

Have a good one!

  1. You look pretty good to me Stacy. Our ives are hectic, we all need to slow down. And the kids are at a busy time of their lives so keeps you hopping to. Add work and well, it is stressful. Remember to take time for you too Stacy as that is important . Nice outfits by the way.
