Christmas crafting, a gift & they are done!!

December 6, 2010

During the Thanksgiving holiday I didn’t get  chance to get much done at all.  Why?   Well, I was busy.  I took Wednesday off, and we decorated the house for Christmas, as usual.  The tree is up and not too many ornaments were broken.  I wanted to have a place to put the cards this year, so this is my solution.  Very little sewing was involved.  I just sewed the rings to the top and a pocket to put rice at the bottom.  I figured it needed a weight in the bottom to have it lay straight down.  I paper clip the cards on it as they come in.  A nicer place to display them than our refrigerator. This spot normally has pictures of the kids displayed, but I took them down to have the Christmas cards displayed and used those nails in the wall.

The chair folder pockets are done!  All 26 of them.  I know they don’t look too impressive, but they are useful for the teachers in the Kindergarten classroom.  They don’t have desks to put things in, as the little kids sit in group tables.  This stores their folder that goes home with them everyday.  Brian went into the class on Thursday for the monthly book club and dropped them off for me.

Then…another birthday party!  Our girl is definitely a social butterfly, so she has been invited to quite a few parties lately.  We had to say no to the one on Saturday because we celebrated Kai’s birthday with family that day.  Then she got invited to one on Sunday.  I figured I should make another dress, plus I don’t have to spend too much then.  Just a few accessories and we are good!  Plus…I just like making little dresses.  Plus…I need to use up some of this stash of fabrics that has been sitting there for a few years.  🙂

Anya wanted this puppy fabric (she loves it) as this dress.  Well, I really didn’t have much at all left.  Just bits and pieces.  The pink matched and then I had this purple, so all together everything matches the puppy fabric.  A bit wild, but cute enough, right?  I think the little girl liked it, and I know her mom did. 🙂

Now that those things are all done, I think I’m going to concentrate on making a few things for Christmas gifts.  Then maybe a few more clothes for the kids.  I think Kailan needs more pants.  He tends to run out of them, beyond the fact that he is almost grown out of half of them.  Those kids sure grow fast, don’t they??

  1. Yay! For once I kinda sorta thought like crafty you and I have been hanging our Christmas cards on a ribbon stretched down a wall for the last couple of years. Except I didn’t get all fancy and sew it on a nice hook or anything 🙂

Love Anya’s party dress – how fun!

  2. I bet you are so relieved to have those chair folder pockets done. I am sure the teacher really appreciates them too!! That dress is adorable. I need to start on Christmas presents too.

  3. Hooray for the chair pockets. I thank you on behalf of teachers everywhere:-)
My mum used to do that ribbon thing with Christmas cards and I have always meant to…maybe next year!
PS: I am amazed at the way you find all the right fabric to put together for a stunning outfit.
