Feast or Famine sewing

December 31, 2021

Here I sit at the end of the year of not much sewing and have managed to sew/finish up 10 garments, 1 backpack purse, 3 leather wallet key chains and I fixed 2 leather purses. That is more than I think I accomplished the rest of 2021!

Time is a hot commodity right now for our schedules, so finding time to sew has not been easy. I also lack the energy…really since the C*vid started. There has been a lot of watching TV and not much doing other things. I have a list of resolutions for next year, both personal development and creatively, but that is for another post.

Here are the garments that I sewed up this past week.

Finished my sweatshirt dress, which was using the pattern I previously drafted with a few modifications. I did the side seam color blocking, omitted the pockets and drafted a new neckline. I haven’t worn it yet, so I may add some closures of some sort to the collar to bring it together.

These are two modified Rulo tops (G+G Patterns) similar to one that I made a few years ago, with the skinny arms, longer length and cowlneck collar. I wear the other one all the time, so I wanted a few others to wear with sweaters and leggings. They need to be able to drape, so using bamboo spandex jersey is a good choice. The black and red one is one of my fabric designs.

I had to piece the back since I didn’t have enough fabric, so one half is going one way and the other is going the other direction. Not ideal, but it is 4-way stretch so it should keep its shape.

These are just a plain pair of polyester spandex work pants. I have another cardigan I made previously that will work well with it, color-wise, and some cream, white or black tops to go underneath. I made the length shorter than normal, as I have been trying to wear sensible shoes to save my back at work. I have a sit-stand desk at work (going in 3 days a week now), and I need to wear comfortable shoes to stand in.

I made this tank top and cardigan to go together. I really like this fabric pattern, and have purchased it previously in a larger repeat, which I used leftovers for the neckline. The aqua bamboo fleece is so very soft, and went with it well. I can’t remember if I purchased it for that reason, but it works. The cardigan pattern is an old one. I need to figure out another “go-to”, but I just really like this one (I have made it 6 or 7 times). The tank top is a modified Cali Faye pattern.

This set was one I had printed through a custom printing shop on the fluff fleece base. It wasn’t as nice of fabric as they get printed for their fabrics, which bummed me out. It was thinner and not as plush and the blacks didn’t print dark enough (it looks more dark grey in person). Still…this will be super comfy and warm to wear. The top is the Naptime Creations Slouchy Sweatshirt and pants are my draft.

Another pair of lounge pants in my own pattern draft. The fabric was cotton lycra from Moonbeam Fabrics in Elvish script. I have no idea if it is upside down or not!

This tunic is a mashup between a WBM Sneha and Bella Designs Sophia. I had barely enough fabric in my 1 yard of Modern Jersey for this, and had to lessen the bottom of the skirt. Another one of my fabric designs. I will wear this over leggings with a sweater this winter.

There it is…the last of my sewing for 2021. I spent some time cutting out more to sew up, which is the time-consuming part. I have LOTS of fabric, as I have continued to occasionally purchase fabric over the last few years. I have some nice fabrics in there, so I just need to devote myself to sewing things up. More to come on that. I will attempt to take some worn and styled pictures. I haven’t really wanted to be in front of the camera much in the last few years. I am ending 2021 at my highest weight, sans pregnancy, soooooo that’s GREAT. 😉

Maximum effort needs to be made in several different areas for 2022.

Happy New Year to all…let’s hope for a better 2022. We have ended 2021 with one of the girls’ volleyball teammates testing positive for Covid. For real…2021 good riddance!
