Flamingos

August 22, 2013

When I was digging away in the one-off fabric pile at the fabric mill I buy my fabric from…I found this fabric.  Totally girly and totally dressy fabric.

 I wasn’t sure I could make her a dress, since…you know…it’s a dress.

Dresses are generally off the table at this point, but I still bought the fabric.  I figured someone might want it, since it is so CUTE!  Surprisingly, she said she would wear it. 🙂  🙂

This is a nice rayon with a good drape and no stretch.  I decided to do a flutter sleeve dress with a circle skirt.

I think I should have made the sleeve a bit longer.  I did think about doing another sleeve, but I had already hemmed it…so…yeah, no.

I lined the bodice with a satin, since SHE said it was itchy.

Itchy = I shall never, ever wear this thing you spent 8 hours making.

After she tried it on, she rubbed her face on the satin on the inside, so I think it passed muster.

The zipper was a bit of a pain.  The seam ripper was used a plentiful of times.  I think it looks mostly nice at this point.

It twirls rather well.  Bike shorts or capris are going to be needed.  This is the only panty-less twirl shot I got.

…And of course, One must have shoes to match their dress.  Luckily, she had a rarely worn pair in her closet!

Hey…I am on a roll!  Finally sewing again!

  1. So well made, every detail is perfect. You have some super fancy and nice drafting tools there, I should really look into getting some of those. Where did you get yours? And what paper do you use?

    1. Thanks, Rachel!

The French curves I bought in a pack on Amazon and the circle maker is a quilter tool that I got at Mill End fabrics. I have used that thing so much! It makes drafting circle skirts pretty easy.

Paper…just a big roll of white paper from Office Depot. Can’t get much cheaper than that! It has decent thickness and a nice width.

  2. I love this dress! And funny, but I think the flamingos actually make it look a little more grown up and childish. Thanks for linking up!
