Focus – Week 18

May 7, 2018

Last week I was avoiding my sewing room like the plague.  Having to alter a prom dress will do that to me…

My accomplishments this week

Focus Photo –

Softball tournament on Saturday and the girls won it!  She had some nice plays, but it seems like she may have strained a muscle.  Her arm was really hurting her.  Hopefully taking Sunday off from sports helped her heal up a bit.

Sewing –
  • I got the prom dress altered this week, with taking it in 1″ on each side of the zipper and shortening it by about 4″.  When I cut the different layers, I did them the same length.  The chiffon ended up shorter than the satin interior layers.   I was going to fix it, but she said it was fine when we fitted it on her.  I was glad since all those narrow hems are not fun.
  • I got the strike off I need to get done by this next weekend cut out.  I had to draft a pattern for what I wanted, though it was not hard.  I have just been exhausted from all the running and stress from this spring.  I will definitely need to cut back on sewing samples this summer.  We are just so very busy, and I have some things I want to make.  I also don’t have a ton of time to devote to promoting.
  • #makenine progress: Nothing this week.
  • This week’s sewing will be to finish the strike-off, photograph it, and I also need to get an outfit done for the boy and blogged for a blog tour by Saturday.  That will really be the limit of the time I have to do things, but HOPEFULLY I can get the girl her shirt done with the Viking graphic below.  It is her birthday on Thursday, though she already got a nice gift from us.
House cleaning –

Got the exercise room put back together and cleaned all the floors in the basement (vacuum and washed).  The deck was put back together, too, so now we have all the furniture back up.  My new grill is coming this week, so I’m excited to have that!  Of course the weather is turning wet and cold.  Dangit.

Time with family –

We had a birthday party get together on Sunday.  It was so nice to see everyone, and it was a wonderful spring day.

Health, exercising, making healthy meals –
  • I went for a couple of morning walks around the lake and got the exercise room back in order.  We can get back to using it again now.  Time is the hard piece to come by now that the kids are in full on summer sports.
  • Meal plan for this next week:
    • Monday – Chicken fried steak or grilled steak and roasted Brussel sprouts.
    • Tuesday – Getting my new grill, so maybe burgers?
    • Wednesday – Grilled marinated chicken, a salad and bread on the grill
    • Thursday – Leftovers, maybe.
    • Friday – Eat out – will be running for a volleyball tournament and softball games
    • Saturday – Eat out – will be running for a tournament
    • Sunday – We’ll see what time we get home.  Probably something simple.
Creative Design

I am working my way around the African animals…

This graphic is a compromise for the girl, since she wanted one of the Fabric Anthropology Ragnar panels, but the adult would be way too big for her frame.  I downloaded the Viking font from 1001fonts.com and drew the rest of the graphic.  The blade is modeled after a reproduction Viking Seax that we own.  The runes are ones I drew previously and talk about here.

This will be the back:

The tapestry piece is hard to see, so here it is here, too.  I partially copied it from a Viking artifact in a book we own on them.  It has a snake, a crane and a deer in it.

Reading –

Nada.

So many softball games this week as we wind down to the last two weeks of high school softball.  There is also a volleyball tournament on the weekend, and some baseball practices thrown in.  At this point I am glad that the boy’s season is delayed due to some shenanigans with team placements.  At least we don’t have to worry about games for him right now.  Another two weeks and they both are in the summer games/tournaments for travel ball.  Yep.  Not a lot of time for sewing.

I am also informally doing Me Made May.  At this point I do wear something I made every day.  It’s not really a stretch to pick something I made from the closet.
