Going back

June 22, 2011

Lately I have been buying and then returning. I bought a couple of Spanx slips to wear with a tight dress that I bought at a low weight. Never a good idea…buying something at your low weight. I hope to wear it again, but I know it will be months. At least it was only $24 and it really is a great LBD for me.

Anyways…those slips are uncomfortable and I don’t need it right now. They won’t save me from the pudge and I don’t have an occassion to wear it anytime soon, anyways.

Then I bought another pair of jeans from The Buckle. The fit isn’t perfect and if I’m going to spend that much on a pair of jeans that I DON’T need, the fit needs to be stellar.

So…I returned them.

Of course, upon returning them, I had to do a little more shopping.  There was a pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans that would have loved if they had been a size smaller and an inch shorter.  I have decided to not buy $150 jeans if they don’t fit me GREAT.  Then I went through the dress department in the nice store at the mall.  I tried on some fabulous designer dresses and came upon two Calvin Klein dresses I rather liked.  They were even on sale.  One fit too tight in the shoulders, though, so that one did not make it out of the store.

I did buy the other one, though.  Net-net…I came ahead after the returns, but I probably should not have bought the dress.  Because now I need a new pair of shoes to match it. 😉

I’m trying to get better at not buying so much.  The credit card has been hit hard lately, and that is partly my fault.  I really need to reign in the spending, and work with what I’ve got.  I need to go through my closet again and do some outfits.

One thing I have noticed about reading personal style blogs is that the money I have considered a reasonable amount to spend on an article of clothing appear to have been increasing.

I have always considered nicely tailored clothes to be worth the money.  Seeing how much certain trendy shoes cost, or a knit shirt…well, I just can’t imagine WHY it should cost so much.  I don’t think knit shirts should cost $5, because I know that is due to low wages in other countries.  I just know that I need to curtail my expanding budget for clothes.

On another note…I got these fun shirts for my son from zuilly.com at $8 each.  I’m getting big time hugs from him.  Guaranteed.

I rarely buy clothes for my kids…instead I make most of them.  I thoroughly enjoy designing and making kids clothing, so it is a fun creative endeavor for me.  Thus, they don’t get much character clothing.  This will be a real treat for him!
