Happy pictures…finally!

December 7, 2009

Well, I finished up my scarf this past week  and it is a bit short…so, it goes to the girl.  She was happy to have her scarf and I got a happy modeling shot of her with her new hat and scarf.  Yay!  She’s smiling and not being temperamental!  Yes, the picture is not phenomenal, but I take what I can get these days.

In a Christmas shopping expedition to Michael’s (my own personal crafting Mecca where I spend too much money), I picked up a few more skeins of yarn.  I had visions of more armwarmers and neckscarves pour Moi.  This is actually so nice to have something to accomplish while I’m watching TV on the couch, or just sitting in the library in a big comfy leather chair watching the twinkling of the Christmas lights.  I’m not sure how much more room I have for the yarn stash, though.  😉  This will keep me busy over the holiday break.  Not like I have anything else on my to-do list. 😉

Here is a You Tube video I found that shows some different stitches on the loom.

Now, here is Anya’s Christmas dress.  The top dress is pink dupioni silk.  I used white frog closures on this dress, with some yoyo’s and sew on jewels to dress it up a bit.  The underdress is a cotton-lycra knit with fuzzy at the neck, cuffs and bottom.  Pretty, pretty!  She wanted to wear it after I had her modeling it, and of course she spilled milk on the dress after I told her to be very careful.  GRRRRRR!!  So…I washed it and it may have shrunk a bit.  Lovely.  Well at least she will get one holiday wearing out of it, though it doesn’t look quite so lovely now. 🙁

I also made 4 little Halloween tote bags for prizes for Kai’s birthday party.  He had three of his little friends over on Sunday afternoon.  We decorated our exercise room with the Halloween goodies Aunt Susie provided and it was really cute!  Kai was very impressed and had a great time putting everything up.  We were really hoping the boys would spend more time looking at things, but two of them thought it was “lame” and were “bored”.  Yeah.  Love the video game generation where they need to be constantly entertained or else they aren’t having fun.  This was the most painful birthday party we’ve had, and I was wishing it would end about 15 minutes into it.  If it would have just been Kai’s other little friend, then I think it would have been lots of fun.  I don’t think those other boys will be coming over for a playdate anytime soon.  Manners and the feelings of others were not top on their minds.  The one was quite the little braggart and thought very much of himself.  Kai seems to attract those dominant personalities.  He’s such a quiet, shy, sweet little guy that he just follows them like a sheep.  We really need to work on that!

I’m still hopeful that I will get some pictures of the basement this week, but it is a bit of a full week.  I have 2 nights out with the girls, my birthday and this weekend Brian and I are going out for a DATE.  This would be the second time this year, so we are on a roll! 😉

Oh, I also made another stretch velvet skirt that I wore yesterday for an open house my work put on (they served wine…so I HAD to go, right??  Yeah, in case you were wondering…I was one of the last to leave.).  We were supposed to dress up, but not over the top, so I made another skirt from fabric I forgot I had in the bins.  Somehow I managed to get all my fabric in my sewing room closet, with the exception of a bin that I’m going to give to charity next time.  Amazing!  I’ll try to get a picture of the skirt by next week.

I’m hoping by next week I will have Kailan’s vest done, and maybe some other presents.  We’ll see.  Time is running out on the Christmas cards, too.  Is it bad that I just don’t have the energy this year?  I usually have them out the door by December 1st.  This year??  Notsomuch.  Sometimes, we just have to let things go if there isn’t the time, right?  I’m not sure if I will get it done, and I’m not going to beat myself up about it if it gets left off this year.  There are plenty of people that we send cards to that never send them to us, so I don’t think it will be missed all that much.  Maybe I’ll just send an e-mail card and call it good.  That would be eco friendly, right?  So…I’m being green, and not lazy!  I like that excuse. 😉

  1. The one year that I didn’t send out Christmas cards, EVERYone asked why. They may not say anything when they get them but are surely missed when they don’t come. But that really was a busy year for me.

Did you say you made the hat too? All of it, just adorable. When are you going to get tired of hearing that? I started knitting a scarf for V earlier in the year and haven’t finished it. She was just reminded of it since the cold came.

  2. Oh Stacy. That dress is gorgeous. No wonder she didn’t want to take it off. I did my Christmas cards last night. I just uploaded photos to York Photo and made one of their photo cards. I had grand plans too, but went the cheap and easy route. It is definitely ok to let some things go for sanity sake.

  3. That dress is amazing Stacy, is Kailan vest going to be silk too? I love that silk.
I can’t believe all that you got done so far, so if you send e-mail card the green excuse is great. Why did I not think of that.

  4. Anya’s dress is beautiful. I am with you about Christmas cards but with oldest daughter’s wedding this past summer, I am thinking I better send out my cards and letters. We will see.

  5. Oh, my goodness. That dress is to DIE for. Anya may be the luckiest girl on the planet! Wow.

I’m totally with you on the GREEN Christmas cards this year. I have a great idea, just no, no time!

    We’ll see…

  6. Sorry to hear about the spilt milk, but, it happens. It happens quite frequently in my house too. 😉 She still looks adorable in all that silk though. I hate to even think about xmas cards, I may totally agree with your green idea. If only my in laws knew how to use a computer…. 😀

  7. That dress is really beautiful. She looks lovely. I have made so many dresses that I can’t even count them all! When my girls were little I did a lot of smocked dresses. I just loved how sweet they looked in them.

Glad you had a great time at your open house.

  8. Anya is REALLY stylin’ with that gorgeous dress plus ultra softie scarf and hat! Lucky kid. Was it hard to work with that yarn you used on the scarf? Great resource video too – but I’m happy to stick with the basic twist stitch for now, haha!

Hey, what happened to your birthday post that’s in my reader but not HERE? Happy birthday to you and big congrats on the new camera – you deserve it Stacy, and I’m sure you’ll work magic with it! My poor lil camera is having more serious issues, too.

Oh, and Christmas cards are simply not happening this year. Oh well.

  9. What I love about your designs is the way you team unexpected fabrics together. Dupion silk and fuzzy stuff! Wild! but it works!!!!!
Sorry to hear about the brat birthday boys :-(. Kids get too much given to them nowadays and they expect it all the time. Mind you, I think you were optimistic hoping boys would ‘look’ at things 😀 Girls maybe! You should have seen our ‘shepherds’ at the nativity! All 5-7 year old boys rolling around wrestling on the floor. Lord knows what would have happened to the sheep hahahaha!! Sounds like K is just a lovely young man and I know you are very proud of him. He will become more discerning in his choice of friends in time I suspect. As for Christmas cards….eeeeek! I am RIGHT with you on this subject!!!!! I intend to send some this year but heck…look at the date now!
