January review and February goals

February 9, 2022

As I am trying to be accountable to my goals for the year, here is how my January goals went:

  • January Pinterest Project was this raglan sweatshirt. I ended up using the arm design for one of my sweatshirt dresses, which is very comfy to wear.
  • I needed to wrap the kids up for pattern starting points for their Ren Faire costumes, both of which will have fitted jackets. This did not happen! Pushing this goal to February. I did, however, buy some fabric for the costumes I imagined they wanted and now have 5 yards of a pricey wool with no plan. Capes for everyone!
  • Sew up a brown sweatshirt dress I have cut out.
  • Figure out a pattern for a burnt orange fleece I have. Perhaps the one above. Yes, it was the one above. I didn’t have enough for the whole dress, so the arms were pieced and I added sherpa fleece to the neck. So cozy!
  • Draft a new cardigan pattern Another thing that did not happen
  • Draft a pattern for fleece lined cape Yeah, this didn’t happen either
  • 4 new art pieces for January Yes! I actually did more than 4 since it had been so long since doing anything.
  • Stick to workout schedule, as much as possible. Entering tournament season with some out-of-town time, so while out of town I would like to make sure we walk as much as possible, and when eating out choose salads over burgers. I didn’t really work out in January, and it was too frickin’ cold to walk outside. I did try to eat better and I drank less, so baby steps.
  • Focus at work improvement Ehh, it got a little better
  • Pick up paint for laundry room Did this…and there it sits. I really don’t think I will have time in the next few months to paint this room. Once the boys’ tournaments are done in April I think I will have some weekends free. I want to paint the door to the garage and the cabinets and that will be more time consuming that just the walls.
  • Find dining room paint and paint over wall marks Did not do this yet. I will likely do it at the same time as I get around to painting the laundry room.
  • Get my weekly to-do lists finished for what I put in my planner. I made some inroads, and got a few things done. I feel like January was pretty productive overall.

I also made a few purses, and fixed an overnight bag that had a fabric/zipper area that frayed apart. Made it useable again and saved it from a landfill. My son needed a bigger overnight bag, so win-win!

I also made a burgundy top and have cut out a pair of leggings. This was with not having access to my sewing room for about a week while hubby quarantined in the basement with Covid.

Now onto February…

February Goals

  • February Pinterest Project: I have a few different ones that I would like to draft. This first one is using this type of collar for a cardigan pattern. I think the collar will have to have some interfacing in it for it to not be too floppy.
  • Second one is a version of this top, only longer. I also want to make a tunic/short dress to go under it.
  • A purse for my sister like the last purse I made. I need to ask her what colors she wants first, and may order some different fabric for it. That means it will get pushed another month.
  • I need to get the kids wrapped up in duct tape so I can work on patterns for them.
  • I have a few simple projects to work on, like a leg pillow for sleeping. My current one is all kinds of lumpy from being washed many times and the stuffing moving around. I may try to do something to make that not happen. I’m sure I will upcycle the filling from old pillows I have washed and are in my sewing room.
  • Exercise 3x/week. Trying lowering my expectations on this one.
  • 4 art projects, which I think will be fairly easy to do.

Now since we are over a week into February, I need to get going on this list! I did get something creative done last weekend, though. I wanted to make a non-Christmas front door wreath, which I think I will try to change up as the seasons change. I also do a lot of either dried or silk floral arrangements to add some color to the rooms. It was finally time to take down the Christmas stuff, so some redecorating was in order!
