June & July in Review

August 5, 2019

Well…summer has just flown by. I’m sure I am not the only one that feels this way, as it seems to do that every year. It was a good thing that I got a lot of things sewn up before I started my job, since I have no free time anymore. Between my new job and the kids’ sports, we don’t have much time in the evenings or weekends. August tends to be a bit better, so I am hoping that I get a little extra time.

Here is my review of my goals for June and July.

I do really like my new job and the people I work with, so that is a great thing. They are fun and the work is interesting; although, I am still at the spot of a new job where I don’t have nearly enough to do. I know it will change, though, in the future.

Now I need to figure out how to squeeze in my hobbies. I am just SO. TIRED. at night. I don’t have the energy to get anything done once I have dinner made, eaten and have attempted some laundry. I need to figure out how to sneak in at least a little bit of creativity. No creativity makes me a bit irritable.

This is definitely a work in process. The kids are sort of getting things done. They at least want their allowance now, so I guess that is an impetus to get them to work. I need to figure out how to get them to help a bit more with the laundry that ends up sitting and is half theirs.

If I write out a list for them at the beginning of each day they tend to work on their list and get it done. I just have to remember to do it before I leave for work. The weekly to do list on the fridge just got ignored.

Reading has ground to a halt. I’m waiting patiently for a new book by Dianne Duvall to be released in August. Can’t wait for that. J. R. Ward also has a few books I would like to read. I know I tend to get lost in books and don’t come up for air until they are done. When you are behind on everything I tend to feel sloth-like that I just sat and read a weekend away.

Over the last few months I did get some tiled designs made up:

The #52 week sewing challenge has ground to a halt. I honestly didn’t even look at them to see what they were. I knew I didn’t have time to get them done.

A few things I did make…

I finished up a black jacket that I had cut out before I began work, made a few more pairs of work pants (I currently have a cream, black, olive green, brown, and grey pair).

I made a chiffon top with one of my fabric patterns and lined with a white lining knit. It doesn’t fit fantastically, but I think it will look cute with a pair of blue jeans. I need to get pictures of it yet.

I made a lightweight blue knit t-shirt. Again…need a picture. I have been really, really lax about getting pictures lately if you can’t tell. 😉

I made a skort.

Made a matching shirt and skirt. Shirt is Modern Jersey in my fabric design and skirt is a ponte in my pattern.

Made a couple of dresses in my own fabric patterns in Modern Jersey.

I mostly just ordered fabric in June and July. Once the brakes came off my spending, I seem to have gone a bit overboard. I also ordered a lot from Zulily for me and the kids. I knew I didn’t have time to make a lot of new clothes before school, and I needed more work clothes. Hopefully I will hit my groove for Fall and get a few things done!

June and July seem to always go by in such a short time frame. We are so busy. I know that little will get done and I just have to be okay with that.

Hopefully I will have more to share in August.

Have a good one!
