Sewing | Sewing for the boy

Rockin’ it like the 80’s

January 2, 2013

I did not get much done in the way of sewing during my almost 2 weeks off at the end of the year.  I got one outfit completed for the Boy, and then I spent about 4 hours with a friend sewing her daughter 2 outfits for her American Girl doll and matching jammies for her daughter (no pictures).  It was more than I planned to do, and was a bit tired when I was done with that sewing marathon.

My machine also needs to get serviced.  The timing is off and the seams look horrible most of the time.

Here is what I did end up completing…

The shirt has this cool boom box fabric I found for the boy.  Somehow the sleeves ended up too short, so I will need to add a bit to the edges.

Then I made him a pair of pants with a lycra sweatshirt fabric.  I had intended to use it for me, but he really needed some black pants.  I will likely have to make another pair of black jeans for him, too.  This is highly synthetic, but pretty sturdy fabric.  I found out just how synthetic when I tried to iron around the pockets.  I burned the fabric a little bit.

I’m sure he won’t notice.

He is a boy after all!

A fun comfy outfit for the boy…

Due to the busy time of year for me at work right now, and the fact that my sewing machine is on the fritz…I likely won’t be participating in Project Run and Play’s current season.

The weekly challenges aren’t really my cup of tea this time.  The first one with the pretty party dress would be a waste on my daughter.  She likely won’t wear it, as she has really moved past fancy dresses.  The men’s shirt upcycle was fun when I saw it the first time 5 years ago, but now I have seen so many of the same things that it doesn’t interest me anymore.  Maybe I will see some new versions in the PR&P pool and participants. 🙂

I will try to participate in a few of the challenges, though…once my machine is fixed.

  1. Oh, take it back!!! Surely your machine will behave long enough for you to participate in PR&P!!! 🙂 I understand work schedules though. I couldn’t participate last season because of work deadlines.

    Love the 80s flashback!

  2. Hate it when the machine plays up :-(…Love this boom box fabric. If it was in cotton I can imagine using it for a shirt for Himself. After the two formal dresses (back to back) and making four sets of angel wings for the Christmas Play, I haven’t had the machine out since. I am currently sewing my knitted toy together, which I finished knitting back in July or something!!! Life is so busy. Can’t believe how long Kai’s legs are in those shots!

  3. You are so talented at sewing with knit fabric. I’m not a huge fan of sewing with knit fabric myself as I’m not very good (or experienced) at it… I really should get that serger out of the box… I’ve been meaning to for such a long time… oh well, maybe in the years to come..
It will be a very sad day when my little girl no longer wears fancy dresses, I’m hoping I have at least 1 or 2 years left, so I’ll take it for as long as I can & have fun while I can because I know it won’t last forever. Why do little children have to grow up so quickly??
I’m hoping your machine gets fixed super fast so you are able to take part in some of the PR&P season 6 challenges.
I hope to sew along with most of them, but as for the rest of them I think I’ll do less designing & use the challenges to motivate me to sew in that particular category. There’s some sewing I want to get done. I just want to sew & during the Minnesota winter is a good time as I’m stuck inside anyway. Also I got 3 new Oliver + S patterns for Christmas and want to try them. We will see what time will allow…
    Have a great day !
