A little bit of Euro style…flower power!

March 1, 2011

The “Euro style” in boutique children’s clothes is comprised of bright colors, embroideries, ruffles and ribbons.  It’s usually rather busy.  This outfit reminds me a bit of the Euro style.  Anya picked out the fabric when she came with me to the fabric store one day.  She actually picked the blue as the complimentary color, so she seems to be branching out from pink a bit.  Thank goodness!

The skirt took all afternoon for me to make, but it was worth it (took about 3.5 hours from drafting to finish).  I love how it turned out and so does Anya. 🙂  Many ribbons were sacrificed in the making of the skirt.

Side View of the Skirt

I made the bottom into a circle skirt, with the side panels in a different fabric and a wavy hem.  The easiest way to do hems like this is to just make the whole piece lined.  You can see from my pictures below what the inside looks like.  First I did the pocket on the outside piece, connected the two at the bottom hem, did the bias tape hem on the middle part, then made a “sandwich” with everything and stitched it all together.

The shirt is another freezer paper stencil.  I drew a flower out and used a few different colors to make it.  I am accumulating a little collection of fabric paint now with all these stencils.  I made the stencil a bit too big, but oh well.  I am imperfect, as I have come to realize.  This is a hard realization for a Type A personality, though. 😉

I made the sleeves a bit wider, and then on one of the sleeves I added some yoyo’s with buttons.  Anya thinks they look like googly eyes and was none too pleased.  Of course, that was early in the morning, and she is just a cranky-pants in morning.  Perhaps they will grow on her.

I have no idea why she sticks her hand up in the air to model for me.  It is an affectation she has acquired…for some reason.

Then I made another one on Saturday (I have been sewing up a storm!).  Basically the same design, just a little different hem, and I put beads on the ribbon for the pocket.  I took pictures while I made it, so I am going to try to put a tutorial together for it.

UPDATE: here is the tutorial

Then here is a very tropical swimsuit for her.  It reminds me of Hawaii, where it is warm and sunny.  Unlike here.  She was really cute wearing it at swimming.  I might make another for her, but move the neckline/shoulder piece a little bit.  It was a bit of a pain to make since it is fully lined.  Mostly the bottoms were a pain.  The top was pretty simple.

I need to devise a good summer dress for the princess.  She seems to prefer knits, so I’m going to try to figure out what design will be my “go to” for the summer.  I have plenty of knits sitting there taking up space, so I do believe I won’t have to purchase much at all.  I went through Kai’s closet and he may need a few more shorts, but otherwise he doesn’t need much either.

I guess I will have time to get back into working out, then.  Darn.

  1. Holy cow you have been busy. I am so glad you took photos for a tutorial. I would love to try to make one for Harper. I absolutely adore the way it turned out.

  2. don’t worry about making a tutorial for me Stacy…LOL Although the outfits look great…:o) and I can’t believe how big she is getting…But another recipe would be ok….ROFL

    just saying…

  3. Like the second outfit particularly. The wavy hem is cool. You are so brave making a swimsuit. Would love to see her in it. It looks so cute.
