Creativity | Sewing | Sewing for the boy

Is it a whale? Is it a shark? We’ll just call it a fish…

February 17, 2011

Two sewing posts in one week!  I am working on getting a bunch of stuff done right now.  My sewing room is a mess, but I am having fun working on projects.  I thought I would share these that I got done so far this week.  I have two more shirts stenciled for him that I should be able to finish up, and then I’m planning on making another pair of pants.  I have big plans for this weekend!

So…more boy sewing!

I decided that I needed to make the Boy a shirt to match the jeans I made him.  Matching clothes seems to be an issue with the kid.  As long as things are very close to matching, he can figure it out himself.  It’s not even that he is trying to create “unusual” outfits…he just doesn’t care.  What can you say??  He’s a boy!

I copied the embroidery of the fish and did a dark blue stencil for his shirt.  I have LOTS of white knit, and not much for “boy” colors.  I need to make a trip up North to the big fabric warehouse to get some boy colors, I guess.

I used the part cut from the middle of the stencil on the sleeve and did an outline.  It is hard to see, I know, but it is there and it is cool.

Then, since I see this done all the time on Euro wear, I added the patch at the bottom.  I used Heat n’ Bond to give it stability on the knit.  Cute right?

Here he is in his new outfit (quick picture before scho0l)!

He also wanted me to make a blanket for his little stuffed husky puppy that he sleeps with every night.  He chose the knight fabric.  This is a pretty simple blanket.  I just put black fleece on the other side and used double folded purchased bias tape to bind it together.  I sewed lines in between the squares to “quilt” it.  Cute and met the needs of the little man.  Quick and relatively easy.

Sweetness…

I will have more by this Tuesday…bring on the weekend!

  1. Lovin’ it! The face in the second shot; the serious sleeping face 🙂

That patch is waaay cool. Makes the whole thing look really professional, ‘like a bought one’ as my husband would say! Did you use a walking foot for the quilting or just your normal foot?

  2. That turned out awesome!

And I think you’re right about that BOY thing… because I can’t tell the difference between the days that Itty Bit dresses himself or when Daddy dresses Itty Bit 😉 hee hee.
