Journaling

March 2, 2018

I have looked at all those super fun bullet journals on Instagram and Pinterest for the past few years, so I decided I wanted to start a journal.  They are a blend of tracking your weekly schedule, a to do list, drawing and whatever inspiration you want to put inside one.

I started off by buying one that I made up and printed at Blurb.  It was a big fail.  The paper didn’t absorb the ink, so it was smearing all over the place and the pre-made pages were just too limiting.

Next step was to find a journal that I could just fill in with blank pages.  I looked all over at the mall one day and nothing fit the bill.  I remembered seeing some on the website of one of our favorite fantasy artists, so I went over there and grabbed three of them.  They were pretty reasonable…and SO PRETTY.  The covers are embossed and the paper is very nice quality.

Now I can finally start doing some journaling and try to keep track of my life.  I have a tendency to write things down on several pieces of paper that end up everywhere.  I also sketch new designs that also end up on random pieces of paper.  Now I can just put everything in my journal.

It gives me a reason to do some drawing and get a little creative.

For those not inclined to do drawing, there are some places that sell stickers you can use instead.  I purchased a few, but too many stickers in a bound journal will make it hard to close.

Sweet Ava’s Papers has some pretty cute ones and she does ones geared towards the sewing community.  She has stickers for pretty much everything.  I’m getting some for Pre-order Opens, No School, Weigh in, Blog, Habit Tracker, and a few more.  I had to just tell myself to stop looking since I kept adding more to my cart!

One thing I need to find are pens I like that don’t bleed through the paper.  I want something bright that won’t go through to the other side.  I’ve got a few issues I might just print something out to cover it up.

Hopefully this helps me stay focused and keep track of all the things I need to get done.  I certainly have a lot of irons in the fire, so I need something to help me keep track of it all.

The main thing I like about journals is how they are a tangible look back on your life.  I post some things on Facebook, but the day to day events in our life will be in this journal.

I like having something I can hold in my hands…I’m old school like that. 🙂

  1. Try Flair Markers. They work well for pattern drafting and also for journaling :). I have lists all over the place…. right now my main method is to track things on a big whiteboard!
