A bit brown

July 7, 2011

Another long weekend has passed and it seems like we need a few extra days to recover.  We spent some fun times with friends and family, and now it is back to the daily grind.  Our week has been crazy busy, so I didn’t have time to get my pictures off the camera and onto the blog until now.  At least I got the pictures taken!

I am sporting a brand new sunburn from the weekend.  I thought I had gotten sunscreen there, but apparently I missed it.  I blame the kids…they must have distracted me mid-application.  They do that a bit.  At least it will turn into a tan and likely won’t peel.  I may be fair skinned when I keep out of the sun, but I tan just fine.  Probably due to that great-great-grandpa that was Native American Indian.  That’s pretty much the only non-anglo-saxon hereditary I have.

Hair Day #5 –

This one I do when my hair is dry.  I discovered this while on maternity leave with my son where I wanted a simple way to get my darn hair out of the way without too much fuss.  I do this all the time, and since I only wash my hair every other day or so, my hair is in this style just about every other day.  And…um, generaly, I put it up like this before I step in the shower, think “good enough” and go to work, uncombed and all!

You need good strong sticks for this style with nice rounded ends.  I purchased some more “decorative” ones that were just weak, and it broke them.  Additionally, If they don’t have a nice rounded end they can pull and break your hair as you are putting it through.

Gather hair at the nape of your neck and start twisting it all up.  I twist it like I’m going to put it into a bun, and then push the bun over towards the top.  I make sure to place the tail under it before I topple it over.  Place sticks, top curve first and go through at an angle.  You want to push through the top end on the corner, hit the hair at the scalp, pick some up and then go through the curve at the bottom opposite corner.  Do this with both sticks so that they are crossed.  They will hit each other as you intersect them in your hair.  I normally have a tail sticking out, and when my hair was really long, I actually used the tail and made another bun at the top.  It looked like a really elaborate hairstyle and it took me less than a minute.  When I had just cut my hair, I just had a little tail on the end, so this still works for that length of hair, too.
