Black filigree

February 1, 2019

Well, its been terribly cold here in the great North.  We had the coldest temperatures and wind chills in 25 years, so schools and businesses were closed.  We all just hibernated and stayed inside. I sewed, of course!

I received a strike-off from Sugar Ink to sew up for their latest round based on the Kingdom of Hearts game.  I have no idea about this game, but the filigree print spoke to my gothic little heart.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of the whole piece of fabric…I thought I had.  It has a key pattern in the middle, with half along the side.  The filigree pattern is in a good spot to get it on the front and back of the shirt.

This week’s theme for the 52 week sewing challenge is “Sew a Fancy Seam”.  I decided to do a fancy seam on the arms of the shirt I made with this strike-off.  I made a double arm, and made the top piece lined, with a zipper and some ornamental lace.

Fancy!

The base pattern is my draped top pattern I made a few years back.  I should have added some more width to it, as this cotton lycra has less “give” than the jerseys or bamboo lycras I usually use for this pattern.

Next, I wanted to make up my black skirt on my Make Nine for 2019.  I used a heavy weight bamboo lycra, a lace knit and lots of black lace.

This was my own pattern.  I kind of made things up as I went along.  It isn’t a terribly wide maxi skirt, but very comfortable.

I used my serger to gather the ruffle on the bottom, which I cut at the width of the fabric.  I gathered after hemming, and then adjusted it to fit on the pattern piece before serging them together.

It has a little bit of a twirl to it!

I now have two down on my list for 2019!
