A new black purse

December 28, 2018

I will have to get on those “2018 wrap up” posts, but I am so behind in just posting everything in general.  I will sit down next week after the 1st and work on getting caught up on everything.

For now…I have a purse!

This is my boxy purse that I made taller, so I can fit all my stuff in it.  I made this mainly to fit my big camera and lots of other stuff for taking to sports for the kids.  The webbing I used on the handle is extra wide to give more surface area for all the weight.  I also added two conchos and sewed on the handle piece to make sure it was really sturdy.  This needs to take a bit of weight.

This was a heavier weight cowhide leather, so it was not super fun to sew.  I’ve sewn worse, though.  I made sure that I pounded down the seams with a mallet to make it easier to sew and get under my pressure foot.

The interior is a skulls fabric from Twisted Needle Textiles on canvas.  I didn’t interface it, since the leather was pretty hard and I didn’t think it needed it.  I did add some foam to the bottom of the purse and added contact cement to keep it in place.

I have a few pockets along one side, plus a pocket in the side to put my water bottle/tumbler in my purse.

It’s hard to see with all the print, but it is pretty nice to have the pockets, plus the one on the front of the bag.

It fits a ton of stuff, and I actually made it into the last 52 week sewing challenge with the “sew a gift for yourself”.  Pretty sure this qualifies!
