May in Review

June 4, 2019

It seems like as the end of the school year approaches, everyone is just barely getting by! We finished up volleyball for the boy and girl, and then also had to make sure all their end of year projects were getting finished up. Both will end with A-averages, and both had great volleyball seasons with their teams.

Now…onto June and figuring out how exactly we will be getting the kids to beach volleyball mid-day. Ugggggh.

Here is my review of my goals for May.

Got a job! Whew! After 4 interviews I finally got a job offer for a company that I really liked the people and the work sounds like it will be a great challenge. I start tomorrow, so yeah…trying to get stuff done and off my to-do list. It won’t all get done. I know this. I am grateful to have found a job that will pay me close to what I was making before, and will a nice office atmosphere that doesn’t appear too stuffy.

Have to admit…I didn’t get much done in May around the house. I am so over cleaning up after everyone. I will be making a to-do list for when the kids are home by themselves, and if they don’t get their stuff done, I take their phones with me to work the next day. How many times do you think I will need to do this before they get the picture? After having me home and doing the majority of the housework for over a year, everyone has gotten lazy around me. I’m done!

I started to re-read the Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duval (Vampires! Romance!), since she is finished up writing the story on the main hero in the series. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

I did get some tiled designs made up last month.

Last month was a wash for the #52 week sewing challenge.

  • Sew A Button (I did replace a button on my hubby’s work pants that week)
  • Sew a Kid or Baby Pattern (Nope!)
  • Sew a Dress (Nope!)
  • Sew Something Soft/Warm (I made a soft shirt…so I guess that might have worked for it)

What I did get sewed up was some work clothes and a new laptop bag. I also sewed up my last strike-off sample for awhile.

My “to do list” continues to be never-ending. I do admit…I was highly unmotivated in May. I did a lot of reading and some bare minimum cleaning. I have my to do list in my journal, so I know that I have stuff to do, but it is just never-ending, and will always be so.

I had thought that I would get SO MUCH DONE during my sabbatical from work. I got some things done, but I always thought that I would work out everyday, have great homemade meals and be on top of everything. I wasn’t. It was too easy to just not do much of anything at times, like just spending the day reading in front of the fire. It was so nice to be able to relax, since I had been going on all cylinders for so long.

Another thing I had thought I would do during my off time was start a pattern company and sell my fabric designs. That didn’t happen either. I barely sell anything at Spoonflower, and I would have to spend a lot of time on social media to get some traction there. I am just not interested in doing that right now. As for the pattern company…I have lost interest in learning how to digitally draft. The last year in the online Facebook sewing groups has been pretty disheartening. If someone doesn’t like you, they send the mob after you. People are not perfect, and you may not agree with everything they do in their lives, but it is like they live for ruining other people’s lives. I have decided I am going to go through the groups tonight and leave several before I start work tomorrow. I get sucked into the drama, and I don’t need the added stress in my life. I am going to just stay in my yard, do my own thing, draft my own patterns, sew up my own fabric and enjoy myself!

In going through my fabric stash, I also realized I spent way too much money on custom fabrics that will never get used. They were fun designs, but neither me nor the kids will want to wear them. Most are in cotton lycra, too, which is not my favorite for apparel. I’m hoping to sew some up for either my grand-nephews or for the Sew for Kids charity sewing. I haven’t done as much for them as I have wanted in the past. I just need to figure out what to make for them.

That is a wrap for May. June is going to be a lot of softball, some volleyball and figuring out how to work full-time again. Hopefully, with some luck, I will get a few creative things done, too.
